Manchester United have completed the signing of midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa after reportedly triggering the 29-year-old's release clause of £35 million. Tielemans scored the opening goal in last season's UEFA Europa League final as Villa ended a 30-year trophy drought.

The Belgium captain, who helped to guide his team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, joins on a five-year deal and is the club's third summer signing so far following the arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and free agent Karl Darlow.
"It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United," Tielemans told the official club website.
"Signing for such a special club feels incredible, it is the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football.
”I have had the privilege of experiencing success in the game and it has only increased my determination to achieve more.
"The ambition from everyone at the club is extremely clear; we are all determined to push for the biggest trophies over the coming years.”
Jason Wilcox, director of football, added: ”Youri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League throughout the past seven years.
"He has all of the technical qualities, as well as the ambition and mentality, to thrive at Manchester United. Youri’s consistency is exceptional, and he will add further composure, creativity and leadership to our squad.
"We are delighted to welcome a player of his influence and experience, both on the pitch and within the dressing room, as we continue to build a team ready to challenge for the biggest honours."
Following the departure of Casemiro and the long-term injury suffered by Manuel Ugarte at the World Cup, United were in need of fresh legs in midfield.
On Monday, they completed the £50m signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea. And United acted quickly to bring in Tielemans after a reported deal for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed, with the Belgian relishing the chance to take the next step in his career after three successful years at Villa.
Tielemans made 134 appearances for Villa after joining from Leicester City as a free agent in 2023, scoring 10 goals and registering 25 assists.
He helped Villa twice qualify for the UEFA Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals in 2024/25, before winning the Europa League last term.

Prior to his move to Villa, Tielemans won the FA Cup and Community Shield during his time at Leicester.
United enjoyed a return to form after Carrick arrived to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked in January.
Carrick, a former United midfielder, was originally brought in as an interim manager until the end of the season, but his success earned him a permanent deal.
Now the 44-year-old is looking to put his stamp on the squad and build on the third-place finish that saw the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three years.
They were linked with Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, but missed out on both to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
