Para swimmer Faye Rogers set to compete in 200m butterfly at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as she aims to make 10-year-old self 'proud'

Scottish gold-medal Para swimmer Faye Rogers is ready to ”go out there and race for the love of swimming” as she gears up to compete in the 200m butterfly on Wednesday, four days after setting a world record in the 200m medley SM10 final.

The 23-year-old clocked a time of 2:29.61, hours after compatriot Duncan Scott claimed the country’s first gold at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, ahead of Australia’s Jasmine Greenwood and Mary Jibb of Canada.
Rogers now turns her attention to the 200m butterfly, an event not offered as a Para sport, which she competed in ahead of the 2021 Olympics before a car accident left her with a fused elbow.
With a gold medal already around her neck, she is confident she can tackle the butterfly with freedom.
”I just get to go out there and race for the love of swimming,” Rogers told TNT Sports. ”There’s no pressure on me, my job’s done.
”I just get to enjoy it and not every athlete gets to do that. There’s no pressure, it’s all about having fun and if I can inspire just one little girl to give it a go, then that’s my job done.
”Before my accident, the 200 butterfly was my main event – well, my only event.

”It’s not a Paralympic event. It’s only an Olympic event, so I was told if I want to compete, I am going to have to compete against the Olympic pathway athletes.
”So at first it was really difficult and frustrating to have acquired an impairment and every single stroke I took was just a reminder of how different it was and the things I couldn’t do.
”So I avoided the 200 fly. With that being my primary event before, it really felt difficult, but last season I decided I was going to give it a go anyway and see if I could make that 10-year-old kid who loved the 200 butterfly proud.
”I did it and I qualified for the British Swimming Championships last April in 2025, and I was just buzzing to be there.”
Rogers on becoming record holder – ‘At first there was definitely some denial’
Rogers also opened up on her journey to Glasgow 2026 and how she continued to use swimming as a coping mechanism.
Two years ago, she won gold in the 100m S10 butterfly competition at the Paris Paralympics, after becoming world champion in the same discipline one year previously on debut.
Rogers illustrated how accepting her impairment helped her build back to a level where she can now compete in non-Para events.

”I think my way of coping with it actually was through swimming,” Rogers said. ”I think it gave me something to focus on.
”At first there was definitely some denial. I genuinely believe that I was going to get back to where I was when I didn’t have the impairment, but I think swimming really helped me accept that I do have an impairment and that’s okay, that’s actually really cool.
”It’s been a journey and there’s definitely been some rough times. It took me nearly four years to do the 200 fly again, so it has been hard, but every single minute has been worth it.
”After the accident I would likely never swim again. Certainly never competitively, so to be able to be doing what I’m doing is just a dream come true.
”Honestly, Para Swimming has just given me my life back. It’s been incredible.”
The women’s 200m butterfly takes place on Wednesday, July 29, live on TNT Sports and HBO Max, with the heats in the morning, ahead of the final in the evening.
